Fat grafting, also known as fat transfer, is a surgical procedure that uses a patient's own fat to plump up facial features or body parts. The treatment is designed to smooth wrinkles, fill in sunken areas, and reduce the appearance of scars. Fat transfer reduces scarring and corrects deformities. Since the tissue comes from your own body, there is no risk of rejection.
Procedure
Fat grafting is a minimally invasive procedure performed on an outpatient basis. The area from which the fat will be taken and the area to which it will be injected are both anaesthetised in the presence of anaesthetic. The fat is harvested from an area of the body where it is tightly packed, such as the abdomen or the buttocks, it is then processed through micro or nano lipografting to remove excess fluids and re-injected it into the desired part of the body.
Getting Back to Normal
Swelling is usually evident for about two weeks after the procedure. The face may look puffy for about a week after surgery. Some swelling, bruising, and redness can be expected around the area where fat is removed as well as in areas where it is re-injected.
