Thigh and Buttock Lifts address excess skin and fat in the thigh area. This cosmetic surgery procedure is appropriate for patients with loose skin on the hips or thighs after significant weight loss, as a result of gastric bypass / RYGB Bariatric surgery.
Procedure
- The procedure is typically performed on an outpatient basis under general anaesthesia, unless otherwise advised by your surgeon.
- The procedure can be done using one or two incisions, based on the requirement and surgeon recommendations.
- Lifting the inner thighs may require only short incisions extending from the anterior part of the thigh/groyne crease around to the buttock crease.
- Lateral or anterior thigh lifts can be performed as separate procedures if desired.
Getting back to normal
- The patient is placed in a compression garment after surgery to reduce swelling and assist in the natural shrinking and tightening of the skin.
- Smaller thigh lifts may cause some initial discomfort, which can usually be controlled with prescription pain medication.
- Larger thigh lifts require one or two nights in a skilled nursing facility or hospital, during which pain injections and intravenous catheters can be administered.
- Bruising, swelling and pain usually reside within a month. You may be able to continue strenuous activities in six weeks, and almost all symptoms disappear within the next four months.
